Emo
Hair
Besides the makeup, one of the
most recognizable features of an
emo is the hair. Emo hair
is straight, asymmetrical,
uneven, and one of the hottest
trends. Emo hair started off as
a unisex style with shorter air
in back, sometimes spiked up,
and longer asymmetrical bangs in
the front parted to one side of
the face. The color was usually
black. However, as time evolved,
some people made variations of
this theme. Many scenesters, who
were inspired by the look, began
be more playful with different
bright colors and shapes. For
example, the long bangs were
sometimes toned down.
Interesting to note is that the
emo hair is very layered with
hair gel to emphasize the
unevenness of the hair. Good
examples of emo hair can be
found by looking at Pete Wentz
of Fall Out Boy, and band
members of My Chemical Romance.
For females, the female duo, The
Veronicas, often sport the emo
look. The emo hairstyle was
inspired by Punk and Glam Rock.
Examples of Emo Hairs:
To get started with emo hair,
one must first make sure the
style will match their face
shape. Generally, oval faces or
diamond shape faces can get away
with any style. More roundish or
squarish faces should use the
bangs to cover up the sides.
Lastly, longer faces should use
the bangs to cover up the
forehead. Wavy hair must be
flattened to accommodate the emo
style.
