Many have heard the term
"emo", but for
those not knowing the
term it might be a bit
confusing. The reason it
might be a bit difficult
to understand is that
it's both a fashion
style, and a music
style. It can also be
regarded as combining
the two styles to become
a lifestyle. However;
there are some aspects
of the emo lifestyle
that is less appealing,
and I want everyone to
stay away from, even if
other emo's do it: self
damage. Cutting you with
knives or doing other
harm to yourself has no
base in reality and is
as stupid as it can get.
So please stay away from
these actions. You will
only harm yourself and
those who love you by
such foolish actions.
Let's have a short
glimpse at the music
style first. Emo is
based on the word
"emotional music". This
is most likely why we
think of emo's as
emotional, sensitive and
depressive (thought;
depression is just a
stupid part of the emo
style; which most likely
causes self damage). If
you ask me, being
emotional and sensitive
is far enough, being
depressive and sad all
the time doesn't do
anyone any good. There
is a large difference
between being
emotional/sensitive and
being depressive, why so
many choose the
depressive path is a
mystery for me. Back to
the music style; the
music style is a
combination of hard punk
and the indie rock
movement. The emo music
style started in the
early 1990's but didn't
become popular till
early 2000.
Most of us recognize
emo's from the fashion
style. There is no real
style defined within
emo's as its encouraged
that the clothing and
hairstyle is to be made
unique for each
individual, and express
their emotional site.
Due to depression
playing a large role in
the emo style it has
advanced to emo's often
being dressed in black.
This is of course being
a combination of
depression and being a
"teenager" style. Most
emo's we see today are
dressed in black tight
jeans and a black
t-shirt. They also have
their hair dyed black,
with some lighter
stripes of colour in
their hair.
I hope this answered the
question of how to be
emo and let you
understand some of the
style. I personally
think the style needs to
forget this dark,
depressive side, and
instead focus on colours
giving deeper emotions.
There is no rules
stating an emotional
person have to be
dressed in black and
depressive. Being
emotional means you know
all your feelings;
anger, happiness,
sadness, love and so on.
Depression is just a
small fraction of all
the emotions we live.
